Civic Exchange Internship Programme

Interns at Civic Exchange will have the opportunity to observe the day-to-day activities that go into running a think tank. We aim to challenge interns on an intellectual level while fostering curiosity and passion for public-policy research and environmental concerns.

Civic Exchange takes interns during the summer. We encourage applicants to apply early. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified for interviews. Please note the following timeline for application:

About Our Internship

  • Research: We involve interns in research projects that complement their individual interests and abilities.
  • Communications: We invite interns to create communication materials that translate complex topics to straightforward, comprehensible information for the public.
  • Events: Interns will be able to attend Civic Exchange’s events, which may include lectures, workshops, public presentations, facilitation, and special visits.
  • Community: Interns may participate in a community-oriented project as a secondary activity. This gives interns a more hands-on experience involving local issues.
  • A multinational environment: We work with international affiliates and interns may have the opportunity to interact with Civic Exchange’s global network of thinkers, researchers, and facilitators as well as interns of different nationalities.

Internship Requirements

  • Enrollment in or completion of a degree in related fields, including but not limited to environment, policy/politics, and journalism
  • Ability to conduct independent research in areas relevant to Civic Exchange’s fields of study
  • Excellent English and preferably Chinese writing ability
  • Communications experience, which may include work at student newspapers, magazines, TV/radio stations, websites or green groups would be advantageous

General Requirements

  • Interns can be from Hong Kong or overseas. Applicants without Hong Kong residency are advised to apply early due to visa procedures
  • Must be able to commit at least 6 weeks to the internship
  • Visible maturity and ability, conveyed through how s/he approaches us initially as well as how s/he handles subsequent communication with us in discussing the potential internship
