Civic Exchange – Associate Researcher

About Civic Exchange

Established in 2000, Civic Exchange is an independent, Hong Kong-based think tank that conducts research on environmental issues with the objective of advancing civic education and engaging society to help shape public policy. Civic Exchange has been ranked among the top 50 environmental policy think tanks in the world by the University of Pennsylvania since 2011. Issues covered by Civic Exchange vary over time but have included:

  • Air quality and its health impacts
  • Climate change and carbon reduction
  • Governance
  • Nature conservation and biodiversity
  • Transport and mobility
  • Urban planning and walkability
  • Waste reduction
  • Water security
  • Wellbeing and social issues

Civic Exchange’s work revolves around making sense of complex issues and find better solutions to challenges we face in Hong Kong and regionally. Our research helps reframe policy debate by giving policymakers the tools and information they need to make good decisions. While much of our effort is on original research, we also synthesise the work of others globally, looking for ideas that may be adapted for local and regional conditions. We integrate stakeholder-learning as well as consensus-building as part of our thinking, research and dialogue process. We also look to partner widely with other organisations that share our perspective and can help take forward our research and ideas.
