HONG KONG, 5 July 2017 – Civic Exchange, an independent public policy think-tank, has appointed two new members to its expert panel on Walkability. Wang Liang Huew and Julian Kwong join a team working on solutions to make Hong Kong a better place for pedestrians.
Dr. Wang is a researcher and planner with experience across greater China and Southeast Asia. His professional background covers transportation infrastructure, property development, construction management, and higher education administration. His current research focuses on transport orientated development (TOD), pedestrianisation and urban policy.
Mr. Kwong is an independent consultant on road safety and traffic engineering. At present, he is consulting the United Nations on road safety design standards for the Asian Highway Network, and for the Asian Development Bank’s highway projects in Anhui and Yunnan Provinces. He is also the road safety audit team leader for various trunk road projects in Hong Kong. He is the Chairman of Community for Road Safety, an honorary expert of the Road Traffic Safety Research Center of China’s Ministry of Public Security, and convener for development projects of the Association for Geoconservation, Hong Kong. Pedestrian safety and streetscapes are among his core concerns.

Civic Exchange hosted Asia’s first Walk21 conference in October 2016, with more than 150 speakers from 38 countries, plus 600 delegates. Based on the strength of that event, Civic Exchange launched its WALKABILITY initiative in December 2016.
