Simon Ng is an independent consultant working on air quality, urban transportation and sustainability issues. He was Civic Exchange’s former chief research officer, and has been long involved with the organization, dating back to 2001. Simon is a co-author of Global Cities: Urban Environments in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and China, published by the MIT Press in 2017. Trained as a geographer, Mr Ng’s major research interests include sustainable transportation, liveable cities, air quality management, energy issues, urban walkability and local community planning. He is known for his groundbreaking work on ship emissions inventory and control policy in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. Mr Ng is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong, and has served as an expert member of the United Nations Centre for Regional Development Regional Environmentally Sustainable Transport Forum in Asia since 2006. He is also a member of the Marine Transportation Sub-Group of the Air Quality Objective Review Working Group of the HKSAR Government.
