Water in China: Issues for Responsible Investors [Feb-25; Bloomberg]

Description of event:
Asia Water Project commissioned the 150-page Responsible Research report, targeting the investor community. The report, which will be free to download, identifies key factors that will impact water supplies in China. These bring both risks and opportunities to investors and companies in variety of sectors.

The speakers for the event would be from the Asia Water Project, Responsible Research, SynTao, an Asian Corporate who is dealing with its own water issues, and an investor in the water sector.

Background:
Earlier this month, Civic Exchange, released “Liquid Assets: Water Security and Management in the Pearl River Basin and Hong Kong”, which focuses attention on the growing urgency around water supply-demand issues, pollution, climate, and governance factors in the management of the Pearl River Basin. The Pearl River is the third-longest river in China and serves the Pearl River Delta, also known as “the world’s factory”. The report is available here: www.civic-exchange.org/eng/upload/files/091204WaterAssets.pdf

Civic Exchange and ADM Capital Foundation are co-sponsors of the Asia Water Project, which flags the urgency of the region’s water crisis to the investor and business community. AWP produces original and independent research, encourages dialogue between investors and the business community and, in February, will launch a web-based information portal on water. The Asia Water Project collaborates with International, China and Hong Kong-based organisations such as the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE), BSR, ASrIA, SynTao, Responsible Research, UNEP FI, among others. The Asia Water Project will focus initially on China.
