Winnie CW Cheung Welcomed as Civic Exchange CEO

HONG KONG, 1 September 2017 –  Civic Exchange is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Winnie CW Cheung as our new CEO, effective today.

Ms Cheung brings with her decades of experience in executive leadership, public policy-making, in addition to a strong interest in well-being and sustainability issues. She was formerly the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“HKICPA”).  She is widely known to have led the profession through a period of enormous growth, while establishing the HKICPA’s position as an influential thought-leader and policy-influencer. In her capacity, Ms Cheung acted as an advisor to government, legislators and decision-makers on financial market and legislative reform initiatives. In addition, she was a pioneer in corporate governance and sustainability development in Hong Kong.  Having spent a fruitful 22 years at the HKICPA, she took several years to pursue a second career as a psychotherapist with the goal of “helping others live a better life”.

Ms Cheung possesses a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Manchester, and is a Chartered Accountant in England & Wales, and Hong Kong CPA.  She also obtained a master’s degree in social science in counselling from the University of Hong Kong recently.

Commenting on her new appointment, Ms Cheung said, “I feel privileged as well as a strong sense of pride to take on this new challenge, and see this as a huge opportunity to contribute to the public well-being of Hong Kong.”
